TERRENCE Romeo has vowed to come back for Far Eastern University next season as he’s set to maximize his playing year for the school in his bid to win a first ever UAAP men’s basketball title.
“Oo, maglalaro pa ako next year. Gusto ko `yung last year ko sobrang memorable,” said the shooting guard set to be named the league's season MVP.
And memorable meant winning a championship for the Tamaraws even without the benefit of an individual award.
“Kahit wala nang MVP (award) basta champion, sobrang memorable na nun,” he said.
Romeo is in his fourth year with the school with an option to forego his final year season.
The uncertainty surrounding his return next year was raised after FEU’s season ended on Wednesday night following a 71-68 loss to La Salle in their Final Four encounter.
Coach Nash Racela said he hasn’t talked to his top player yet about Romeo’s plans for next year.
“If he thinks that it’s for the good of his family, ready kami for that,” said Racela about Romeo’s future. “I was thinking nga e, kung nag-advance kami sa Finals and nanalo kami, ako pa ang mag-pu-push na mag-pro siya.”
But the 2010 Rookie of the Year appeared to be very pleased with the way the Tamaraws turned their season around that he’s more than willing to come back next year and take another crack at a championship.
The high-scoring guard from Cavite said he wanted to better himself next season.
“Sobrang laki noong pinagbago ng season na ito compared sa last year,” he said. “Kasi dati pinag-u-usapan kami pero we fell short tapos ngayon hindi kami pinag-u-usapan pero gumawa kami ng noise so bigla nila kaming pinag-usapan.
“So next year iko-correct na namin 'yung mga mali namin na ginawa this year.”
Romeo said he expects the Tamaraws to be more mature next season.
Romeo said he expects the Tamaraws to be more mature next season.
“Yung sa patience namin sa loob ng court tapos walang na-thrown out sa amin. Kung meron man isa lang or dalawa basta hindi na `yung buong team sobrang affected unlike kasi dati pag may isang nagagalit lahat sumasabay. Ngayon umaawat na lang para wag tumaas `yung temper ng nagagalit.”
