Top-seed Petron Blaze and defending champion Rain or Shine go for the jugular against separate opponents in the PBA Governors’ Cup quarterfinals on Thursday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Boosters will have twice-tobeat advantage when they take on eighth-seed Barangay Ginebra San Miguel at 7:30 p.m. after the matchup between the Elasto Painters and the GlobalPort Batang Pier at 5:15 p.m.
Petron, which lost just once in nine games in the elimination round, is coming off a 10-day break after winning their eighth straight match last September 15 against GlobalPort. The Boosters will battle a tired Ginebra side that will play its fourth game in six days.
The Gin Kings got the final ticket to the quarterfinals thanks to the heroic performance of LA Tenorio in a knockout match last Tuesday against Talk ‘N Text.
In the first game, Rain or Shine continues its title defense against a GlobalPort club making its first playoff appearance in franchise history.
The Elasto Painters, who won last season with import Jamelle Cornley in tow, will also have twice-to-beat advantage it their matchup. They will take on a talented Batang Pier side coming off a rousing win in their last outing against Ginebra last Friday, in a game that saw Jay Washington finish with a career-best 30 points.
